Sunny Up

(In collaboration with Lomography, TPJ had Jason Travis play around with Lomo's new camera, the Lomomatic 110 pocket camera. Here, his thoughts and photos!)

I’ve had this idea percolating for a while now—utilize an old market, putz around, spill some groceries, make a mess. I’ve dabbled in film photography over the years but have always stuck to digital for the sheer volume of ideas I can create and execute. However, there’s a tangible quality I always love about shooting with film. It forces one to slow down and live in the moment. Also, the unknown aspect is liberating. This series was especially fun because I purposely didn’t bring any digital equipment to the shoot.

I love a fresh challenge. This shoot involved testing out the new Lomomatic 110 pocket camera. I’d never shot with a 110 film camera before. I set out to make some magic with mundane moments and a limited timeframe.

I reached out to my friend Kelly to model for this shoot. She was the perfect fit because I knew she was a fan of 110 film. She styled herself based on a few discussions, and off we went.

Shooting with the Lomomatic 110 was super fun. The way it slides open to advance the film is a simple delight. Also, the size of the camera is wonderful. And of course the easy loading/unloading of the film is a major plus.

It was nice to get out in the sunshine and catch up with an old friend in the process. I also went home with a few fresh eggs and tomatoes.
