I'd shot with MinnieBAD several times before but I got a message out of the blue saying, "Hey, I've got an idea for a shoot... I've just started work at this club and thought it would be cool to take pics before it gets busy." That sounded interesting. An empty nightclub could be really cool. When she gave me the address I googled it and realised it was a strip club. I thought, well that could be cool too. Who gets to shoot in an empty strip club? Who gets to shoot in a strip club anytime? If you tried to engineer it for yourself you'd probably get accused of being, at best, a bit slimy.
I got there early Sunday evening and had 80-90 minutes before customers started coming in. In my head I had a mix of Anora and Killing of a Chinese Bookie as a reference base. I took pics all over the club from staircases and restrooms to the main dancefloor. I didn't want it to be some smutty T+A show and I didn't want to use a flash as it would have ended up looking just like regular club images. It was quite difficult because the light was low and there was a bit of movement especially on the pole and rings. High ISO and low aperture were used frequently and often. On the way home in the car I was shaking my head and laughing thinking, "how did I find myself doing that?"
