Self Portraits

Self portraits can be tricky. Not just in the sense of setting up, focusing, and triggering the shot all by one’s self, but by the internal twists and turns that take place along the way. Any current emotions have their way of slipping into even the best laid ideas and can have a huge impact on the final frame.

For me, the personal journey is just as rewarding as creating the image. The goal is always to learn not only something about the craft but also something about myself. This time alone to reflect through practice enables the boundaries of one’s self to be challenged and stretched. The intention is never to feel isolated. The hope is to feel connected by the fact that we are all humans looking for a better understanding of one’s self.

Splitting his time between being a commercial director of photography and a portrait photographer, Dave Jacobsen has experienced a wide variety of shoots. From any location to any size budget, the passion is the same behind every frame. His love for technology allows him to translate creative possibilities into meaningful imagery.
