Rock Bottom

Essay 33 • May 5th 2016

There's nothing I'd  rather do than spend the day taking self portraits. Joshua tree was the perfect location to spend the day completely isolated walking through the desert, rock climbing and chasing golden light. I don't feel lonely when I'm alone. I like to be alone.

Kimbra is a photographer based in Brooklyn NY but travels as often as she can. After working as a model for nearly a decade she decided to turn the camera on herself. Frustrated with over edited fashion images that were created of her she wanted an outlet to make images that she felt truly represented her. Self portraits are not only a form of self expression but a cathartic way to release emotions. For Kimbra there is nothing more intimate than taking self portraits.
