Rising Resistance

Essay 593 • Jun 19th 2025

In June 2025, the United States once again finds itself at the crossroads of immigration policy and civil resistance. Here in New York City, hundreds of demonstrators have gathered outside key federal buildings like Foley Square, while thousands march the streets, to denounce actions by ICE, including the arrest of immigrants during routine court visits.

The recent wave of protests reflects both immediate outrage over aggressive federal enforcement tactics and deeper, longstanding tensions about immigration, human rights, and the meaning of justice in American society.
