Nocturne is built around situations that should not be calm - a body drifting underwater, a figure on a car sinking into a river, sleepers hanging from a night tree. Every scene is imagined, then built, lit and performed for real in front of the camera. I look for the moment two things that should never share a frame meet - tenderness and danger, stillness and catastrophe.
Igor Brekhov spent about thirteen years as an engineer before leaving that career in 2022 to give himself entirely to photography. He is self-taught. Nocturne has been shown in three solo exhibitions in Russia, including an immersive projection show, and gathered into a self-published two-part monograph.
