Missed Direction

Essay 124 • Mar 20th 2017

The collection of photos below is representative of a year in my life. A period of travel, work, unrest, searching, and observing the landscapes; both foreign and familiar. This was my first full year in Los Angeles and I am still trying to navigate its maze of contradictions; the desire to stay forever or to never come back. It pulls you in and then closes you out, sometimes within the same day or same hour but, without fail, I remain curious.

My philosophy surrounding photography mirrors my philosophy in life: I’ve never set out to be the teacher, I am fully committed to being a student. Through one side of the lens, I study light, long shadows, color, and lines; through the other, I find people and the complexity of the human form.
