The Antelope Island Bison Roundup

Essay 114 • Feb 16th 2017

Antelope Island, a 42 square mile strip of land in the Great Salt Lake is home to a sizable herd of American Bison.  Every October, hundreds of people flock to the island for a chance to take part in the annual Bison Roundup, a real- life reenactment of the classic American western.  For one day, a group of cowboys, naturalists, and tourists work together to move the bison herd to pens on the north end of the island to be counted and vaccinated for the coming year.
