Danielle on Washington Square

Essay 228 • Oct 20th 2017

Washington Square Park in New York City is often associated with its eccentric energy and its overpowering liveliness- music, dancing, and crowds of people. While growing up right next to this park, I often experienced a different side of it: one of peace, solitude, and personal comfort. I worked with the incredible model Danielle Mareka to evoke this ethereal feeling, accenting the unnoticed beauty in the details of this iconic park. She exuded grace and independence, perfectly complementing the romanticization of the park I aimed to reveal through photography.
